Privacy in the Captain Calm app.

Introduction

This policy covers the Captain Calm iOS app, a sound training plan for dogs who are scared of fireworks. For our website, captaincalm.co.uk, see our website Privacy Policy.

In short: from version 2.0, the app collects no personal data. There is no account, no server, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking. Everything you enter stays on your iPhone, and we cannot see it.

What the App Stores on Your iPhone

To run your training plan, the app keeps these on your device only:

• Your dog's name and the date you are training towards
• Each training session: its date, step, length and how your dog reacted
• Your firework-night log entries and any notes you write
• Your daily reminder setting and preferred session length

None of this is sent to us or to anyone else. Deleting the app deletes it. If you back up your iPhone to iCloud or to a computer, it is included in that backup, which is held by Apple or on your computer, not by us.

The firework recordings are built into the app, so playing them sends nothing over the internet. The optional daily reminder is scheduled by your iPhone itself; no server is involved.

What the App Does Not Do

• No account, sign-in or email address
• No analytics, crash reporting or usage tracking
• No advertising, and no tracking across other apps or websites
• No access to your microphone, camera, photos, contacts or location
• No AI services and no third-party data processors

Earlier Versions (1.x)

Versions before 2.0 were a different app: an AI chat for worried dog owners. Those versions stored your conversations and dog profile on our backend (Supabase), sent conversation text to Anthropic's Claude API to generate replies, and used RevenueCat to manage subscriptions. Each device was identified by a random identifier, not by name or email.

Version 2.0 removes all of this. When 2.0 is released we will shut down that backend and delete the data it holds. To ask about data from an earlier version, or to have it deleted sooner, email contact@captaincalm.co.uk.

Your Rights (UK GDPR)

Because version 2.0 collects no personal data, we hold nothing about you from using it. For data from earlier versions, UK data protection law gives you the right to:

• Access your personal data
• Rectify inaccurate personal data
• Erase your personal data
• Restrict or object to processing of your personal data
• Data portability

Children's Privacy

Captain Calm is intended for adult dog owners. It is not directed to children under 13, and it does not collect personal data from anyone.

Changes to This Policy

If the app ever starts to collect information, we will update this policy before that version is released and change the "Last updated" date at the top.
