How We Calculate Dog Years
The old "multiply by 7" rule is outdated and inaccurate. Modern veterinary science shows dogs age much faster in their first two years:
- •Year 1: Equivalent to 15 human years (rapid growth and development)
- •Year 2: Adds 9 more years (reaching young adult at 24 human years)
- •Year 3+: Varies by size—small dogs add ~4 years per year, giant breeds add ~7

Why Age Matters for Anxiety
Understanding your dog's life stage helps you:
- 1.Recognize age-appropriate behaviors vs. anxiety symptoms
- 2.Identify medical causes - pain and cognitive decline often present as anxiety
- 3.Choose appropriate interventions - puppies need socialization, seniors need medical support
- 4.Set realistic expectations - senior dog anxiety may need medication, not just training
